Carl Houston McMillan
Carl Houston Mc Millan is an energetic humble soul, with a distinctive Afro chic flavour to his short films. Quirky comical dramas are his specialty telling stories relevant to South Africa. He likes to escape the seriousness of real life in his work, abandoning gritty realism in the belief that “life itself isn’t good enough for film and needs to be shaped and formed, spiced and styled.”
Carl’s portfolio includes work for P&G, United Nations Trust Fund for Human Society (UNTFHS), Unicef and Old Mutual. He has directed two short kasi films, a documentary, several South African music videos and various viral videos. He was awarded best director and best scriptwriter from class of 2009 AFDA Cape Town.
Carl is currently doing his BA in Development studies through correspondence, focusing on development projects and poverty alleviation in 3rd world countries. He aims to link his knowledge in filmmaking with his interest in development.
